The Vanner VANN-Guard 70-100 is a high-capacity battery equalizer designed to supply 12V loads from a 24V electrical system without creating the battery imbalance associated with tapping only one battery. It continuously manages the two series-connected 12V batteries so current is drawn evenly while delivering up to 100A of 12V output for demanding vehicle, marine, and alternate-energy applications. With greater than 97% peak efficiency, a rugged IP56 cast-aluminum enclosure, wide operating-temperature capability, and internal protection features, it is built for demanding mobile and off-highway electrical systems.

Key Features

• Provides regulated 12V DC power from a 24V DC electrical system
• Maintains voltage balance between two series-connected 12V batteries
• Up to 100A 12V output current
• Greater than 97% peak efficiency
• Helps prevent unequal battery charging and discharging
• Allows momentary 12V surge loads above the equalizer rating to be supplied by the battery, with the equalizer replenishing the energy afterward
• Multiple VANN-Guard equalizers can be operated in parallel when additional output capacity is required
• Serviceable design
• Integral cable strain relief
• May be mounted in any orientation on a suitable flat surface
• Cast-aluminum enclosure designed for demanding commercial and off-highway environments

Applications

• Transit buses
• Tour and charter buses
• Private coaches
• Heavy trucks
• Off-highway equipment
• Marine electrical systems and yachts
• Alternative-energy systems
• Systems requiring both 24V and 12V DC loads from a common battery bank

Ideal For

• 24V vehicles requiring a high-current 12V accessory supply
• Dual-voltage electrical systems using two 12V batteries in series
• Applications where maintaining equal battery state of charge is important
• Commercial and heavy-duty installations requiring up to 100A of 12V DC power
• Systems where directly tapping one 12V battery would create battery imbalance

Protection Features

• Internal overload protection limits output during overload conditions
• Electronic reverse-polarity protection
• Cast-aluminum enclosure provides protection against salt, fungus, dust, water, fuel vapors, and fluids associated with commercial and off-highway vehicle operation
• IP56 environmental rating
• Designed to withstand rain and moisture exposure
• Battery equalization helps reduce overcharging of one battery and excessive discharge of the other

System Compatibility

• Designed for 24V DC systems using two 12V batteries or battery banks connected in series
• Connects to the system at +24V, +12V midpoint, and ground
• Supports simultaneous 24V and 12V loads
• May be paralleled with other VANN-Guard and Vanner equalizer models for increased capacity

Check Before Ordering

• Confirm the electrical system operates within the 18-32V DC input range
• Confirm the required 12V load does not exceed the 100A continuous output rating
• The equalizer requires connections to +24V, +12V, and GND; all three battery connections are required for proper operation
• Both 12V batteries must be above 8V for the unit to turn on
• For the 70-100, the owner's manual specifies a 125A F1 fuse and an 80A F2 fuse
• Fault-protection devices must be installed between the equalizer and battery power source
• Do not connect more than one conductor to each terminal post
• Do not exceed 120 in-lb of torque on the terminal studs
• Mount on a flat surface close to the batteries to keep cable runs short
• Do not install in a zero-clearance compartment where heat buildup may occur
• Protect the mounting location from battery acid and battery gases
• Cable size must be selected according to cable length and allowable voltage drop

Warranty Information

• North American limited warranty: 2 years from the date of installation or 2.5 years from the date of manufacture, whichever period is shorter
